1 Dislocated Chicken Toe on Wed Apr 28, 2010 4:40 pm

I have a young chicken (about two months old) and she seems to have a dislocated toe. Any tips on how to deal with it? I've tried putting it back in place but it just goes back to the odd angle. It doesn't seem to bother her at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Some chickens get dislocated toes and can act perfectly fine. If you can get a photo of the toe it may be able to help us. Have you tried splinting it into place? I have heard sometimes its bad genetics that can cause the toe to grow wrong but your chicken should be able to live perfectly normal. Hope that helps :)

Yah, as I was moving the toe around the chicken wasn't in pain and it didn't feel broken or dislocated.

I get my chickens from a local feed and seed store. The chicken is almost 6 months old and is doing great. So hopefully it'll be fine. I'm also hoping to get my first eggs in a few weeks.

6 weeks sounds pretty old. what breed is it? usually chickens start laying at around 5 months.
